Just a Few More Weeks
The model yacht fleets are still going strong, but things will probably end the first week in November. So far, most of the days have been just what we look forward to in the fall — clear cool days with sunshine and a good steady wind.
The October 11 Soling regatta was no exception. Fourteen Skippers challenged Back Bay and each other for a thirteen-race competition. A few more “log jams” than usual seemed to occur, so we’ll have to review the rules to avoid those situations. All in all, however, a great day was had by everyone.
Out on the Water
Tim Wright had some challenges to his supremacy, but at afternoon’s end, he ruled supreme, landing a 1.1 score for the day, finishing first in ten races. Don Cundy, always in the thick of things and very consistent out on the water, took the second spot with a score of 3.1. He crossed the finish line first in one race and came in second four times. Only eight tenths behind, Mark Whitehead placed third overall with seven third-place finishes and a score of 3.9. It was neck and neck for fourth and fifth place between Denis Boisvert and Tom Barstow. In the end, it was Denis Boisvert who took the fourth spot scoring 4.6, while Tom Barstow scored 4.7 for fifth place. Now that is mighty close!
Of note: Bob Brennan did take a win in Race 8, but he became so excited he had to quit for the day! Even though the final overall scores don’t show it, Roger Rice, our newest Skipper, has improved. In Race 5 he led the fleet to the third buoy, only to be caught in the home stretch. That, nonetheless, showed the ability he has gained.

Just Gloom for the US12s
Thursday, October 13, was a washout for the US12 fleet. The rain, the gloomy weather, and the strong wind gusts defeated our attempt to sail yet another fall day. We will try again next week, inviting all to “Bring What You Want to Sail.”

Sailing on Back Bay
The season is winding down, but radio-controlled model yachts are on Back Bay in Wolfeboro from 1 PM to 3 PM weekly, the Solings on Tuesday and the US12s on Thursday, weather permitting. Wednesday serves as an alternate day should sailing conditions be poor.
Join the fun! We love to share so don’t be shy about asking to try your hand at the controls. Come watch the show or take a picture. It’s a sight to behold.
