Small Boats, Big Fun: Sasquatch Footy Regatta Returns to Back Bay

The little boats with the big following are coming back to Wolfeboro. On Saturday, August 15, 2026, the Back Bay Skippers Model Yacht Club will host the annual Sasquatch Footy Regatta at Back Bay, where the smallest class of radio-controlled sailboat takes on one of the most spirited one-day races in New England.

Open to all American Model Yachting Association (AMYA) Footy Class boats, races will run from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The Sasquatch Footy is part of the Nor’easter Footy Series, a regional circuit that draws model yachting enthusiasts from across the Northeast.

“This is one of the most fun spectator events of the summer,” said New Hampshire Boat Museum (NHBM) Executive Director Devon Kurtz. “Whether you want to grab a radio controller and race, or just pull up a chair and watch these tiny yachts battle it out on Back Bay, the Skippers make sure everyone has a great time.”

The regatta is one of many on-the-water experiences offered by the Back Bay Skippers, who meet regularly from May through October in Wolfeboro. It joins a full 2026 NHBM calendar that includes Night at the Museum: Up to Camp, the New England Vintage Boat Auction, the Classic Car & Boat Show, the 50th Anniversary Alton Bay Boat Show, Community Sailing, the Boathouse Tour, and the Junior Skippers youth program.
