On Thursday, August 20, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., the New Hampshire Boat Museum (NHBM) will host its next Junior Skippers session at its Moultonborough campus. In honor of NHBM’s Vintage Race Boat Regatta, kids will build small foam boats, decorate their sails, and race them down the museum’s “rain gutter.”
“It’s silly, and it’s fun, and it’s fascinating to watch people’s competitive sides come out—especially the parents,” said NHBM Executive Director Devon Kurtz. “We see a lot of parents and grandparents at these sessions, and they can absolutely participate.”
Designed for future naval architects of any age, the activity allows participants to build, customize, and race their own boats before taking them home.
“Kids get to explore how wind power and hull shape work together, and there’s nothing more fun than playing with boats and racing them,” said Kurtz. “There’s always a chance of getting a little wet, but that’s part of the fun.”
Junior Skippers Lake Discovery Day takes place on Thursday, August 20, and is open to kids of all ages. The session takes place at NHBM’s Moultonborough campus.
