On Thursday, July 25 at 7:00 p.m., New Hampshire Boat Museum (NHBM) will kick off the Hulls and Hops speaker series with world-renowned speed-boat racer Tim Ciasulli. “The Hulls and Hops series is an opportunity to hear from a variety of experts in the boating community,” said Martha Cummings, executive director of NHBM. “We are so excited that Tim will offer insight into the extreme sport of boat racing, where he was undoubtedly one of the best.”
Over his four decade career, Ciassulli raced more than 300 times, winning more than 100 races. He was runner-up in the 1999 World Championship and won the U.S. National and World Championships in the Superboat class in 2000. In 2001, he recorded the fastest ever run around Manhattan, making him National Champion.
Ciasulli has since retired from racing, but he continues to be considered an icon in the powerboat community. “This should be a fascinating talk, which will set the tone for an exciting and informative summer series that touches on different aspects of boating culture and history,” said Cummings.
Taking place at NHBM’s Moultonborough Campus, the event will include beer and light snacks provided by Twin Barns Brewing from Meredith. Admission is free, although attendees are encouraged to make a $10 donation. Continuing the speaker series, canoe expert Benson Gray will speak on Thursday, August 22 and Jim Pocock will discuss his family of prominent boat builders on Thursday, September 12.
