Walk in with a stack of lumber. Walk out with a boat you built yourself. Spaces are still available for the New Hampshire Boat Museum’s Youth, Family, and Adult Boat Building Class on Saturday, July 11 through Sunday, July 19 at the museum’s Wolfeboro campus, 399 Center Street.
“There is nothing else like this in the state,” said Anne Lennon, Programs Manager. “In just nine days, participants have the opportunity to build a beautiful boat they can use for years to come.”
Financial assistance is available, and no participant is turned away due to cost. “We make sure cost is never the reason a family misses out,” said Devon Kurtz, Executive Director.
Participants choose from five boat models matched to skill level and interest: classic canoes and kayaks for solo or tandem paddling, a Wood Duck Kayak, and a Bevin’s Skiff.
“This is a great bonding experience for families,” added Lennon. “Watching a grandparent and grandchild build a Bevin’s Skiff together is very special.”
The workshop runs daily from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at 399 Center Street in Wolfeboro. The program concludes with a celebratory Group Launch on Lake Wentworth on Sunday, July 19.
“Whether families are coming from the Lakes Region, Seacoast, North Country, or out of state, they leave with a boat, a skill, and a connection to New Hampshire’s freshwater heritage they carry home with them,” added Kurtz.
