It’s Almost Too Late
The model yacht building workshop starts on July 8. Kits we have, but radio equipment we have to order, so that’s cutting it close. If you plan to participate in the class, sign up today or we can’t guarantee we’ll have your radio equipment.

We do guarantee a smile for years to come, however.

US12s Don’t Meet Required Minimum Last Week
The US12s had three sailors June 19: Paul McBride, Bill Hagerup, and Paul Wallace. Diane Labella was there practicing with her Soling, so she was included in the non-scoring competition. Paul McBride was race director for the day.

There were nine races in all, and Bill took first place in six of them. Paul McBride took second in six races, and Paul Wallace was surprised and quite pleased to take first place in the fifth race! Diane did a fine job of navigating and maintaining good boat speed, and it’s obvious she’s learning a lot. It should be mentioned that Bill and Diane switched boats for three races, and Diane placed first in one of those races!
Winds were fickle, as usual, and the sun was hot, but the four racers had good focus and finished the day in fine spirits.

A well behaved start

Commodore Whitehead Makes the Call
Tuesday is our regular sailing day, but looking ahead at weather forecasts, our alternate Wednesday was substituted — and we were right! A deluge on Tuesday and sun on Wednesday. The wind was a bit scarce, but you can’t have everything.

Out on the Water
The June 26 Soling regatta brought out nineteen boats for an eight-race regatta. Winds did a ninety-degree turnaround about halfway through when it usually stays in one direction — sorta — but that’s Back Bay for you.

Denis Boisvert, one of our new skippers, has got the hang of things, not only leading the Sailor Class for the season but also winning his first race. To add to the excitement, he was presented with a Back Bay Skippers water bottle. No small accomplishment. Congratulations, Denis!

Denis Boisvert's win
New Skipper Clint Wolcott

This week, the Sailor Class was led by the McBride brothers, with Paul leading the way, followed by Don. A family rivalry brewing perhaps? Denis Boisvert took the third spot and Bruce Brown fourth.

Rick Lalley pulled off a win in the Master Class this week with three firsts, two seconds, and two thirds. Great sailing, Rick!! A strong showing by Anthony Quinn put him in second place for the day. He says he doesn’t care about the scores — yeah, right! Rick Gates pulled into the third spot with some hard-fought racing.

No Jon Boat yet, but check out the motor on the dingy
Paul Wallace comes to the rescue

Long Overdue Recognition
One of our two dockmasters is long overdue for recognition. We have had some problems with vandals ripping out our dock posts (nothing better to do, I guess). Paul Wallace to the rescue! Paul is a master welder and stepped up to replace the posts. Thank you, Paul, from your very grateful skippers

Join the Fun
If you don’t want to build a boat, we’ll help you find a used one. Don’t want to sail? Just come and watch — we put on a great show every Tuesday and Thursday starting at 1:00 PM, weather permitting. Be sure to bring your camera.
