Interested participants should possess the skills listed below to be qualified to sign up for the following courses:

Adult Small Boat Sailing (age 16+), Youth Sailing Beginner (age 9-16): No previous sailing experience necessary.  Must pass a swim test and be fit enough to get back on a boat in deep water.

Adult Keelboat Sailing Basic: No previous sailing experience necessarySwim test is not required but students will be interviewed individually regarding their swimming ability.

The SWIM TEST, when required, cannot be substituted by any certifications.  Instructors need to see how well every student conducts themselves in the water so they can be aware of each student’s abilities.

YOUTH SAILING INTERMEDIATE (age 9-16)

  1. Pass a swim test
  2. Complete Community Sailing Beginner Course and/or know how to
    Rig a Sunfish
    Steer a Course
    Control the sail using the sheet line
    Flip the boat right side up if it capsizes
    Get out of being “in irons” (stuck facing the wind)
    Avoid other boats and objects

ADULT SMALL BOAT SAILING INTERMEDIATE (age 16+)

  1. Pass a swim test
  2. Completed Community Sailing Beginner Course and/or know how to:
    • Rig a Sunfish
    • Steer a course
    • Avoid other boats and objects
    • Change sail trim for different points of sail
    • Tack and jibe
    • Flip the boat right side up if it capsizes
