Enjoy Sailing Without the Hassle of Owning Your Own Boat

Sailing is fun! But the drudgery of maintaining and storing a sailboat can be a hassle. Let us take the hassle out of sailing with our Sailboat Sharing Program. The program is a timeshare. For a low annual fee of just $400 for residents or $600 for non-residents plus a refundable $100 security deposit, you can sail the New Hampshire Boat Museum’s beautiful J24 foot keel boat. All you have to do to is join the Sailboat Sharing Program. The sailboat is moored at Brewster Academy overlooking Lake Winnipesaukee. The sailing season runs from June to September and the annual fee includes mooring fees, maintenance, insurance, and use of the boat.

The Sailboat Sharing Program is a partnership between the New Hampshire Boat Museum, Wolfeboro Parks and Recreation, and Brewster Academy.

Here’s how the Sailboat Sharing Program works:

  • Each sailing day is divided into three time slots:
    8:00 am – 12:00 pm;   12:30 pm – 4:30 pm;   5:00 pm – 9:00 pm.
  • You are guaranteed 10 time slots for using the boat – 4 weekend and 6 weekday.
  • You can reserve your time slots as far in advance as you want.
  • Spontaneous reservations may be made if the J24 isn’t already booked.
  • You can make an unlimited number of “spontaneous” reservations.
  • The J24’s reservation calendar will be online at the Wolfeboro Parks and Recreation
website for you to view 24 hours a day.
  • You must make all reservation requests in writing or by e-mail.
  • To be certified to use the sailboat, you must pass a test administered by Wolfeboro Parks and Recreation’s sailing staff.

Rules and Regulations:

  • You must not take any alcohol onboard.
  • You can bring up to three guests.
  • All minors on board must wear personal flotation devices at all times.
  • All adults must have personal flotation devices onboard.
  • You respect the sailboat and Brewster Academy property.
(Damage will be deducted from your security deposit.)

We’re not the only ones who think the Sailboat Sharing Program is a fun and inexpensive way to sail on Winnipesaukee’s waters. The New Hampshire Magazine thinks it is too and awarded the program a Best of 2014 Award.
