Owner/Driver: Gess Freniere of Fitch Bay, Quebec, Canada
Hal Kelly designed this B utility outboard. The model is the Airborne. It was hand-built by the owner in 2006. It is 11’6″ long and is powered by a Mercury 20 HP 2 cylinder 20 cu. in. engine. Hal Kelly, the designer of the Airborne, started racing in the late 1940s. He built numerous record-setting and record-winning boats. Kelly was so convinced that his designs were superior to the “ready-made” boats so prevalent at the time, that he ran the boat over fifty thousand miles on his knees, covering three continents and about thirty countries. Gess raced this boat in Standish and Warren, ME and has participated in vintage events in Wolfeboro, NH and Clayton, NY. He brings with him 2 other boats, one owned by his wife Tina.
