The Squam Lakes Association in collaboration with
Riveredge Marina and the New Hampshire Boat Museum is offering
a one week boatbuilding workshop this summer. Bill Thomas (http://www.billthomaswoodworking.com/index.html)
an instructor who teaches at the Woodenboat School in Maine, will be teaching
the class which will be held in Bob Rothschilds workshop/barn. We
hope this class will be the start of future programs and thank Bob Rothschild
for offering to host this workshop.
![]() Course Description: Build your own sea kayak in a one-week class. Students start with a pre-cut kit containing all the materials needed to build the hard-chined Willow Sea Kayak design. The construction is stitch-and-glue using Okoume plywood. This is a full-on week with the kayak construction finished at the end of class. Students will still have some work to do when they get home, but the end result will be a lightweight rugged and beautiful boat. Kayak Specifications: Capacity - 150-260lbs Overall length - 17' 7 1/2" Finished weight - between 43-48lbs Hatches and bulkheads Course Date(s): Monday July 30 through Saturday August 4, 2007, (8 am until 4 pm).We are also looking to schedule an additional session in October based on interest. Availability: We have availability for six registrations (six boats). A boat can be built by an individual or a two person team if desired. Cost: $1,500 per boat which includes instruction, a kayak kit, supplies and lunch. You will need to bring along some basic hand tools.
