The Chris-Craft Antique Boat Club Announces:
The new Antique and Classic Boat online Hull registry.
Please go to: www.chris-craft.org/registry. There will soon be a "Hull Registry" link on the Club home page.

HOW TO USE THE HULL REGISTRY
For now, this hull registry is accessed via your Club Username and Password. In the near future we will roll this registry out to the public.

In the blue-gray horizontal bar on this page, you will see several options:
Browse | My Boats | Register New Boat

Assuming that you are logged in to your Club account, "My Boats" should show you the boats that you have personally added to the Hull Registry. Likewise, the link "Register New Boat" will allow you to add a boat to the hull registry. This boat will be tied to your log in. As a note, you CAN register a boat for another party, and you will see fields on the registration form that will allow you to designate an owner. This does not have to be you. The goal is to get as many boats registered as possible, as quickly as possible.

The "Register New Boat" form is divided into a few key sections. The first two sections, (1. Hull information) and (2. Original Information) collect information in the same manner that it is represented on a Chris-Craft factory hull card. If the information that you have entered is based on a Chris-Craft Factory Hull Card, please click the appropriate check box. To the contrary, if the information that you have entered is your "best guess," possibly even based on your limited knowledge of your boat, then please check the "I would like someone to review the validity of this hull information" check box. This will bring your entry to the attention of several database moderators who will make every attempt to verify or correct your record. It will assist us greatly if you can include you hull ID number if at all possible.

Lastly, in the third section (3. Current Information) enter information about your boat's current configuration. This information should reflect the current state of the boat. You may omit information that does not differ from the original configuration.

Once you have completed the form, click on the button at the bottom of the page, "Add Boat." You will then be taken to a Photo Upload screen. Each Hull Registry entry can contain a virtually unlimited number of photos. Please see this listing as an example:
http://www.chris-craft.org/registry/viewboat.php?boat_id=487

This example is my specific barrelback. I have uploaded many photos to illustrate the power of this feature. When you upload your photos, you will choose one specific photo to be the "Primary Photo." This Primary photo is always the first to appear in the array of photos.

Going back to the Registry Main Page at www.chris-craft.org/registry , below the blue-gray bar, you will see a "Search Registry" option. Search is performed on hull ID, make, model, and boat name. This makes things very simple. If you are looking for hull number "71938", you can enter this into the search field. If you are looking for a boat named "Pearl" enter "Pearl" into the search field. If you are looking for a Custom of any year and any length, enter "Custom" into the search field. You will also note in the listing area of the Search results page, the results are sorted based on the "Date Added" to the hull registry. Clicking on any of the column headings will allow you to sort the records via that heading. For example, if you want to sort the list by Hull ID number, just click the blue-gray "Hull ID" heading. This will resort the list based on the hull ID numbers.
"Search" is one method of navigating the database. The other method is "Browse."

Below the blue-gray bar and the search field, you will see a series of Browsing tabs:
Browse by Make Model Year Length Name

The tabbed choices are filters that can be "stacked" on top of each other. For example, if you choose Make = "Chris-Craft," the database will return every known Chris-Craft in the registry. If you also choose Length = "17-foot" in addition to "Chris-Craft", the database will return all registered 17-foot Chris-Crafts, including Cavaliers, Deluxes, Specials, Skiffs, and so on.

Likewise if you add, a third filter Model = "Deluxe Runabout," you will now be presented only the 17-foot Chris-Craft Deluxes in the hull registry. If you have filters in place that you would like to "dismiss" you can do so by clicking the red X adjacent to each filter that you have in place.
All Models, as noted on Chris-Craft Hull Cards, and in Jerry Conrad's Chris-Craft Essentials Guide are listed. Please be careful as you are selecting the exact model for your boat. For example, if you have and express cruiser, it can be any of the following:
Corinthian Express
Constellation Express
Custom Express
Deluxe Express
Dispatcher Express
Express
Express Cruiser
Express Cruiser (4 Sleeper)
Express Cruiser (2 Sleeper)
Lancer Express
Monterey Express
Sea Hawk Express
Seastrake Express
Sports Express
Sports Express Convertible
Super Deluxe Express
Super Express

Again, please make every possible attempt to represent your boat as accurately as possible. If at all possible, refer to your Hull Card for sections 1 and 2. This will greatly enhance the accuracy of this Registry.

At this point in time, you will see just a few listings in the registry at this time. Some of the features of this registry were tested among a small group of users. I would specifically like to thank Club Member Kerry Price for entering the 20-foot Custom hull records that will see upon searching or browsing the Registry. Kerry was instrumental in helping us work out some of the kinks.

For all of you who wanted a place to upload photos of your boat, whether it be completed or on project condition, please do so now. This Hull Registry will be a very valuable tool for all Chris-Craft enthusiasts, particularly if you take the time to upload photos. If you happen to get only part way through the "Add New Boat" process, you can return to your record at any time, by logging into your account, clicking, "My Boats" and then proceeding to the editing options. If you want to share your boat information with others through a discussion post on Boat Buzz, or through email, just browse to your boat of choice and copy the web address in your browsers address bar.

Finally, it should be noted that this Hull Registry will serve all makes and models. If you want to add an antique or classic boat of a make that you do not see on the pull down list, just choose "Other..." and enter in the correct spelling of the boat manufacturer. These "Other" makes and models will be added dynamically to the pull-down menus, making the registry more and more useful to all in the hobby.

If you have any questions please contact me via email...or feel free to call me at 319.247.7207. Lets work together to make this important tool as good as it can be!
