Readies for Race Boat Regatta
June 3, 2009 - Wolfeboro, NH

The New Hampshire Boat Museum is preparing for the 6th biennial Wolfeboro (NH) Vintage Race Boat Regatta to be held on September 16 - 19.

“Thousands of volunteer hours go into this major event held every other year on Lake Winnipesaukee on Wolfeboro Bay,” stated NHBM Chair Hank Why who, along with Regatta Race Director Bill John and Registration Coordinator Gerri Prusko, leads a team of over 100 volunteers to put on the Regatta, with preparations starting nearly two years in advance.

Race crews come from all over the East Coast to participate, with over 50 crews expected this year. In 2009, the event has been expanded to include four full days of activities for the race crews and three days of activities for spectators. The heats will occur on Friday and Saturday, when demonstration laps will take place on a one-mile oval course on the bay.

This well-planned event requires much coordination and collaboration with the American Power Boat Association, State of New Hampshire Marine Patrol, Town of Wolfeboro and the support of the community.

The New Hampshire Boat Museum gratefully appreciates the support of its sponsors which include Danita, Inc.; Meredith Village Savings Bank, Watermark Marine Construction; Wolfeboro Inn; Media Sponsors The Laker and Frank FM Radio; and the ongoing support of the Wolfetrap Restaurant.

Other upcoming NHBM events include the New England Vintage Boat Auction on July 18,, Family Day on August 1, Alton Bay Boat Show on August 8, and Boat House Tour on August 13, as well as the Summer Lecture Series, and the Boat Building, Power Boat Safety, and Community Sailing Programs.
