NEW HAMPSHIRE BOAT MUSEUM ANNOUNCES SUMMER LECTURE SERIES Free Thursday Night Programs for Shoreline Property Owners, Boating Enthusiasts & History Lovers May 23, 2009 - Wolfeboro, NH The New Hampshire Boat Museum in Wolfeboro announces its Summer Lecture Series with a wide range of topics being offered. These programs are held at 7pm on selected Thursday evenings at the museum and are free and open to the public. Thurs., June 11, 7pm - Comprehensive Shoreland Protection Act An overview of the significant amendments to this act by the New Hampshire legislature, effective July 1, 2008,this program will be of interest to boaters and shorefront homeowners, builders and marine contractors. Jason Aube of the NH Department of Environmental Services will lead the discussion. Thurs., Aug. 6, 7pm - Archeology Under New Hampshire Waters If New Hampshire shipwrecks interest you, come and learn about a few, including one on Newfound Lake and two on the Piscataqua River. This program will increase your understanding of submerged cultural resources, shipwreck regulations and methods of pursuing nautical archeology. The program will be presented by David Switzer, Professor Emeritus at Plymouth State University and is sponsored by the New Hampshire Humanities Council. Thurs., July 16, 7pm - Ice Yachting in the Lakes Region Charlie Silfvenius, local ice boater, sailor, and NHBM boat building instructor, will share the history of ice boating in the Lakes Region, including a slide show of local events. Thurs., Aug. 27, 7pm - The Lady of the Lake This first successful steamboat on Winnipesaukee sailed these waters from her launching in 1848 until her final rest at the bottom of Glendale Bay in 1895. David Warren, an avid ship modeler and resident of Melvin Village, spent 3,000 hours researching and building a beautiful 51 ship model of The Lady, one of the NHBM's featured exhibits in 2009. The public is invited to enjoy the evening programs and view the new exhibits after the program while light refreshments are served. The New Hampshire Boat Museum, open Mon.-Sat. 10am-4pm, Sun. 12-4pm, is located on Route 28 (397 Center Street), 2 miles northeast of downtown Wolfeboro, on a 12-acre site formerly part of the historic Allen A Resort property and housed in the original dance hall.
