Wooden Boat Restoration Course Now Offered by the New Hampshire Boat
MuseumDecember 3, 2009 - Wolfeboro, NH. A new Wooden Boat Restoration
Course will be offered by the New Hampshire Boat Museum in Wolfeboro in
January. Six classes will run on Mondays and Wednesdays, 9am to 3pm, over
a three-week period beginning Monday, January 11. Classes will be held
at the Workshop Building adjacent to the museum. The cost for all six
classes is $450 per person. No previous experience is required. Space
is limited, so sign up today at www.nhbm.org or museum@nhbm.org by January
4.
Classes will evolve around wooden boat restoration using modern technology,
tools and materials to repair and rebuild a boat's structure in order
to achieve a safe, sound wooden vessel while maintaining the beauty of
the riginal factory-shipped boat. The course is designed to remove the
mystique of wooden boat restoration and will cover such fundamentals as
the assessment of an old wooden boat, planking, steam bending, varnishing
and more.
The instructor, Zeke Bly of Wolfeboro Falls, has over 35 years of teaching
experience in Industrial Arts and Technology Education, including boat
building courses. He has attended the Wooden Boat School in Brooklin,
Maine, restored several Chris Craft boats, as well as the Hickman Sea
Sled presently on display at NHBM, and built many canoes, kayaks and rowing
shells.
For those traveling distances and would like to stay overnight, arrangements
have been made with the Allen A Motel next door to the Museum with a reduced
