WOLFEBORO VINTAGE RACEBOAT REGATTA
September 17-19
The past will come alive as some of the best known race boats of bygone
eras return to Wolfeboro for the 6th Biennial Wolfeboro Vintage Raceboat
Regatta. This year's Regatta includes over 50 vintage race boats performing
demonstration laps on a one-mile oval course on beautiful Wolfeboro Bay
on Friday, September 18 and Saturday, September 19.
Sanctioned by the American Power Boat Association and on the APBA Vintage
& Historic Division race circuit, the heats will include a variety
of vintage classes, including outboards, large and small hydros, runabouts,
flatbottoms, skiffs, Gold Cuppers and large triple cockpit runabouts.
In addition to seeing - and hearing - these unique vintage boats run,
spectators are invited to view the boats up close and to meet the drivers
and their crews. There will be several opportunities to do so.
On Thursday, September 17, from 9am to 5pm, look for the boats at the
Wolfetrap Grill & Raw Bar's parking lot at Back Bay where boats will
be undergoing registration and inspection. On Friday and Saturday, during
the actual Regatta from 9am-4pm, spectators are welcome to come into the
pit area at the Town Docks.
The public is also invited to attend the fun social events: Friday evening
at the Wolfeboro Inn and Saturday evening at the Wolfetrap Raw Bar &
Grille, for the awards and final event wrap-up. Reservations are required
and tickets may be purchased by contacting Regatta Registrar Gerri Prusko
at 603-267-9075.
The Wolfeboro Vintage Raceboat Regatta is held every other year, alternating
with another big event in Clayton, New York, well-known for its Antique
Boat Museum. The NHBM' s Regatta is becoming well known for the flat
water of the lake and lots of time on the water. Vintage heats are
run every half hour for two full days on Friday and Saturday. If you want
to see lots of vintage race boats running their flybys, come to Wolfeboro.
Please be aware that the Wolfeboro public docks and parking areas are
public areas and the required Town and State permits limit the boat count,
so this is an invitational event, open only to legal APBA Vintage &
Historic race boats.
View the Flybys on the Winnipesaukee Belle
Get right into the heat of the action with a special viewing out on the
water. For a small donation to NHBM of $10, guests may enjoy the views
on board the Winnipesaukee Belle. Generously donated by the Wolfeboro
Inn, you will be able to really feel and see the power behind these race
boats. The Winnipesaukee Belle is a 70-foot replica turn-of-the-century
paddle boat that will provide one hour cruises out to the center of activity
twice a day - once in the morning and once in the afternoon - on both
Friday and Saturday. Stop by the Regatta Registration Booth at the gazebo
in Cate Park to purchase your tickets.
Vintage Race Boat Rides
If you're feeling adventurous and want to experience a ride of a lifetime,
your donation of $100 will provide you a ride in a demonstration heat
right on the course with a vintage race boat driver. These opportunities
are scheduled for 12:30pm and 3:55pm, weather permitting. Racing life
jackets and helmets are mandatory and will be supplied. Look for the ride
boats' signs with tickets available at the Regatta Registration Booth.
